LASHMA emerges best govt health insurance agency for data management, universal coverage

The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has been recognised as the best Health Insurance and Managed Care Government Agency in Nigeria for its exceptional data management, enrollment strategies, and population coverage in 2025.
The prestigious award was conferred on the Agency by the Institute for Health Insurance and Managed Care at a ceremony held at the Nigeria Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
Presenting the Award to LASHMA, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and former Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, congratulated the Lagos State Government and LASHMA on this significant achievement.

Sununu affirmed his confidence in LASHMA’s victory, citing the agency’s numerous innovative approaches towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He emphasised the Lagos Agency’s critical role in robust data gathering, interpretation, management, and utilisation in effective health insurance, stating, “I have no doubt that Lagos State will win the award because Lagos has data, and any State with data on Health Insurance is seriously working towards achieving UHC.”
Commending Lagos State’s consistent efforts in strengthening its health sector, the Minister hailed the state as a “shock absorber” for national healthcare challenges, recalling its pivotal role in curtailing the spread of Ebola and the initial impact of COVID-19. He urged LASHMA to maintain its momentum in the pursuit of UHC, expressing his anticipation for the Agency to receive further accolades in the future.

Representing the Board Chairman of LASHMA, Dr. Adebayo Adedewe, the Head of Business Development, Mr. Olatunji Rotimi, accepted the award with gratitude.
He thanked the Institute for acknowledging the agency’s dedication to ensuring the healthy lives of Lagos residents and for bestowing the honour.
Rotimi reiterated LASHMA’s unwavering commitment to providing affordable, quality, and equitable healthcare services to all residents, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
