Makinde reaffirms commitment to Oriire abductees’ rescue after 29 days in captivity

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reassured families of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities in Oriire Local Government Area that efforts to secure their safe return remain ongoing.

In a message marking the fourth week since the abduction, the governor expressed sympathy with the affected families, acknowledging the emotional toll and uncertainty they have endured since their loved ones were taken.

Makinde said he understood the pain of the families, noting that the victims had been away from home for nearly a month. He admitted that repeated assurances might no longer provide comfort but stressed that security agencies had not relented in their efforts.

According to the governor, relevant authorities are working with credible intelligence and deploying all lawful measures necessary to secure the victims’ release. He, however, declined to disclose operational details, citing security considerations.

The governor revealed that intelligence reports suggest the abducted pupils and teachers may be located within the axis of Old Oyo National Park, a vast forest reserve that stretches across several LGAs.

He explained that the size and terrain of the park present significant operational challenges, requiring sustained coordination among security agencies involved in the rescue mission.

Describing the abduction as a matter of collective concern, Makinde said the incident extends beyond Oriire Local Government Area and affects the entire state. He urged residents to remain patient and continue supporting ongoing security efforts.

The governor also called on members of the public to provide useful information through the Oyo State Citizens’ Enquiry line, 615, while avoiding the spread of unverified information that could undermine rescue operations. He assured residents that the government would continue to provide updates through official channels and remains committed to ensuring the safe return of all abducted victims.
