Man arraigned over alleged ₦87,000 theft in Ondo

A 35-year-old man, Taye Salau, has been arraigned before an Akungba-Akoko Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing household items valued at ₦87,000.

Salau was charged with two counts of stealing over an alleged incident that occurred on Sept. 5, 2026, at about 10 a.m. at No. 262, Rotowa Street, Ayepe, Iwaro-Oka Akoko.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Olasunkanmi Boboye, told the court that Salau allegedly took the items belonging to Balogun Pius, who subsequently reported the matter to the authorities.

According to the prosecutor, the items allegedly stolen included a 3-kilogramme gas cylinder valued at ₦20,000, two bundles of used iron sheets worth ₦52,000, a stainless steel bowl valued at ₦7,000 and a charcoal pot worth ₦8,000.

Boboye said the alleged offences contravened Section 383(1) and were punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Salau, who had previously appeared before the same court in connection with another case, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following the plea, counsel to the defendant, Prince T.M. Agbede, applied for bail. Magistrate Kolapo Kolawole subsequently granted Salau bail in the sum of ₦500,000.

The court adjourned the case until Sept. 23, 2026, for further hearing.
