NDC formally ratifies Obi as presidential candidate for 2027 election

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally ratified former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The ratification took place during the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

At the convention, Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central in the Senate, moved the motion for Obi’s ratification, while former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege seconded it. The motion was subsequently adopted amid enthusiastic applause and cheers from delegates and party supporters.

Obi’s emergence followed the conclusion of the NDC’s nationwide primary election process, which culminated in the special convention convened to formally endorse the party’s presidential flag bearer.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate arrived at the convention venue alongside the NDC National Chairman, Seriake Dickson, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, both of whom played prominent roles at the event.

Obi and Kwankwaso recently joined the NDC after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal divisions and protracted legal disputes within the party as reasons for their defection.
