Olubadan cautions newly installed Mogajis, Baales against land grabbing, abuse of power

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, on Monday issued a strong warning to newly installed Mogajis (family heads) and Baales (village heads), urging them to shun land grabbing and any form of unlawful conduct, including interference in other people’s family affairs.
The warning came during the installation ceremony of 15 Mogajis and seven Baales held at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The event was attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council, political office holders, traditional title holders, and other notable personalities.
Among those installed were Chief Tolulope Akinkunmi Afolabi, Mogaji of Agunbiade compound (Alaadorin Ode Aje area); Chief Sijuola Rasaq Ajibola, Mogaji of Looyin compound (Oke Offa Atipe area); and Chief Wasiu Lawal, Mogaji of Obebe Odugunwa compound (Oke Oluokun area).
Speaking through the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, the Olubadan reminded the new leaders that their positions come with responsibility and accountability.
He advised them to lead with discipline and respect for hierarchy, saying: “Give respect to other people who are there before you. They are your seniors. Take charge of your domains. If you have any issue, let the Olubadan be aware.”
The monarch also emphasised the importance of inclusive leadership and community security, stating, “Security of your domains should be your priority. Make sure you give people chances to talk and contribute when you have meetings. Do not force decisions on your people. Remember, you are the representatives of the Olubadan.”
In a firm caution against abuse of authority, he warned, “Do not take other people’s wives or lands illegally. The Olubadan does not tolerate land grabbing in Ibadanland. It is against the law. If you do so, you will be prosecuted.” Oba Ladoja further reiterated that traditional rulers must uphold justice, fairness, and integrity in their domains, stressing that leadership must always prioritise peace, order, and the welfare of the people.
