Oluwo absent as Aregbesola, Najeem visit Iwo palace on ADC campaign

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, and the party’s governorship candidate, Najeem Folaranmi Salam, on Monday visited the palace of the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, as the party took its governorship campaign to Iwo.

The monarch was, however, absent when the delegation arrived, while palace chiefs received the ADC campaign team on his behalf.

Addressing the gathering, Aregbesola described Iwo as a special town in Osun State and Yorubaland, saying the difference between the ADC and other political parties was “very wide”.

He said although the present administration had constructed roads, his administration delivered more than road infrastructure.

“During our administration, we did not only construct roads. There was security across the state. People slept peacefully without fear because there was security in every nook and cranny of Osun State throughout my eight years in office,” he said.

The former governor also accused successive administrations of abandoning projects initiated by his government, citing a school in Iwo that he said was close to completion before he left office.

“There is a school in this town that we started. It only remained the fence, and the chairs were already there. The next administration needed very little money to complete it, but because of envy and wickedness, the project was abandoned. About N1 billion would have completed it then, but today even N5 billion may not be enough,” Aregbesola said.

Speaking on behalf of the Oluwo, one of the palace chiefs prayed for the ADC governorship candidate and members of the campaign team, saying, “There is nothing you ask for in this palace that will not come to pass,” while wishing the party success in the August 15 governorship election.
