Sanwo-Olu appoints Dr. Agbaje as new commissioner

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially appointed Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje as the new Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development.

Following a rigorous vetting process and legislative clearance, Dr. Agbaje steps into the cabinet rank after serving as the special adviser on Rural Development to the governor.

Political analysts and community leaders across the state have widely welcomed the elevation, describing Dr. Agbaje as a well-suited choice to lead governance across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

As head of this strategic ministry, the new commissioner will serve as the vital link between the state executive and traditional institutions while managing relations with royal fathers and community groups.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Agbaje expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and pledged to advance the administration’s THEMES+ agenda through inclusive growth and local infrastructure transformation.

His primary focus will include harmonizing local government tax policies with state laws to tackle double taxation concerns affecting small businesses across the metropolis.

Traditional rulers and agrarian leaders have already sent congratulations, expressing optimism that his experience will accelerate development in key rural and coastal communities.

Having concluded the formal announcement at the State House, Dr. Agbaje is now set to assume full administrative duties at the ministry’s secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.
