The Ondo State Government has officially commenced preparations for the state burial of the late elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, following an inaugural planning meeting in Akure.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, chief press secretary to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, formal arrangements are now underway to honor the late nationalist, who passed away at the age of 100.
Representing the state-constituted burial committee in the absence of its chairman, Attorney General Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN), former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Bakitta Bello led the official delegation to the deceased’s Akure residence.
The government delegation was warmly received on behalf of both the family and the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation by the Olu of Ilu-Abo, Oba Oluyemi Falae, alongside Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti.
During the meeting, the host representatives commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for granting a state burial, praising the decision as a fitting tribute to the late centenarian’s immense contributions to Ondo State, Yorubaland, and Nigeria.
They further extended the heartfelt gratitude of both the family and Afenifere, emphasizing that the honor reflects the profound respect the government and citizens hold for the late leader.
To ensure a seamless celebration of his life, the delegates focused their deliberations on harmonizing the burial schedules of the state, Afenifere, and the family, while agreeing to establish subcommittees that integrate all key stakeholders.
Concluding the session in the presence of the late leader’s children and grandchildren, the committee reassured all parties of the state government’s dedicated commitment to hosting a dignified and memorable farewell.
