The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has unveiled a week-long programme to mark its 60th anniversary and 2026 Press Week, scheduled for November 1 to 7.
The celebration, themed “Celebrating the Past, Defending the Present and Shaping the Future,” will feature activities highlighting the union’s six decades of contributions to journalism and the media profession in the state.
In a statement signed by the council’s Secretary, Dayo Adu, the union said the programme was designed to commemorate its Diamond Jubilee while providing an opportunity to reflect on the growth and development of journalism in Oyo State.
Activities lined up for the celebration include a church thanksgiving service, an opening ceremony and anniversary lectures. The programme will also feature dedicated days for the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
Other activities include Family and Veterans’ Day, a Jumat service and a grand finale to round off the week-long celebration.
The council said the anniversary would provide an opportunity to recognise the contributions of journalists and veterans who have played significant roles in the development of the union over the years.
It urged members to take note of the scheduled activities, dates and venues as contained in the published programme, while encouraging them to participate actively in the celebration.
The council expressed confidence that members’ participation would contribute to the success of the Diamond Jubilee and the 2026 Press Week.
