Lagos must complete inherited projects, fix shortcomings — Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the state’s development agenda must prioritise the completion of ongoing projects, correction of existing shortcomings and introduction of new initiatives to sustain its growth.

Sanwo-Olu argued that continuity in governance should go beyond retaining previous administrations’ policies, stressing that successive governments must build on existing achievements while addressing areas that require improvement.

At the KOH manifesto launch, he said Lagos could not afford to lose valuable years through abandoned projects or disruptions caused by changes in political leadership, insisting that development required sustained commitment and a clear sense of direction.

The governor, who is expected to leave office in 2027, said his successor must focus on completing unfinished projects, improving existing infrastructure and identifying new opportunities to advance the state.

He cited the Lagos Blue Line and Red Line rail projects, bridges, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure as major investments that required continuity to deliver their intended benefits to residents.

According to him, continuity should provide an opportunity to assess existing projects, fix what is not working and initiate the next phase of development rather than merely repeat the policies of previous administrations.

Sanwo-Olu also expressed support for Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat’s succession ambition, describing him as someone with considerable knowledge of the administration’s policies, planning and implementation processes.

He urged Lagosians to support Hamzat, arguing that a leader with sufficient institutional knowledge and experience would be better positioned to sustain ongoing projects and advance the state’s development agenda.
