Accord Rep candidate Olajengbesi donates transformer to Ilo-Ijesa, ends 14-year electricity challenge

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Accord Party candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has donated a 300KVA transformer to Ilo-Ijesa community in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, ending 14 years of unstable electricity supply in the area.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, the Pelumi Olajengbesi Campaign Organisation (POCO) said the candidate had fulfilled a promise he made during his campaign tour of the constituency in August to deliver the transformer in October, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the donation, Olajengbesi said the intervention was motivated by his commitment to community development and the economic well-being of residents. He lamented that public officials had failed to provide basic amenities despite citizens’ contributions through taxes and voting.
The legal practitioner criticised politicians who enrich themselves and build private schools for their children while communities under their representation remain without basic amenities.

“That is not representation, that is wickedness. Nigeria has a class of people in positions of power with an uncontrollable appetite for money — those who can kill and die for money. There are provisions for basic social amenities like transformers, solar lights and boreholes, but they are diverted to private firms owned by some politicians,” he said.
Olajengbesi, who stressed that he had fulfilled his promise despite not yet holding public office, said: “I am not yet in office, but I made a promise in August and I have fulfilled it in October. That is the assurance I am giving. I don’t want my people to curse me tomorrow”.
Responding, the community chairman, Mr Dapo Ajakaye, thanked Olajengbesi for the intervention, saying residents had initially doubted his promise but were delighted that he had delivered. “For 14 years, we have been having unstable electricity. When you told us that the transformer would be provided, I thought it was a bluff to earn our votes during the guber election,” he said.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by youth groups, women leaders and artisans, who said the transformer would boost small businesses and contribute to the community’s economic revival.
