Oluwo backs Tinubu’s second term, says opposition campaigners not welcome

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has declared that anyone campaigning for a presidential candidate other than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not come to his palace, saying the president’s policies and programmes have positively impacted Nigerians.

The monarch, who spoke at the flag-off of the construction of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan and Osogbo-Akoda-Gbongan roads in Osogbo, said the increased allocations accruing to governments under Tinubu’s administration should translate into improved living conditions for the people. He added that there was no excuse for poverty in Osun State and other parts of the country.

Oba Akanbi commended Tinubu for introducing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as Nigeria’s first student financial aid programme, and for implementing local government autonomy, which he said had improved the welfare of traditional rulers.

“Anybody who wants to campaign for another president should not come to my palace. Under Tinubu, we have NELFUND and local government autonomy. Traditional rulers are benefiting from it. Nobody can stop your second term, Tinubu,” he said.

He also pledged support for whoever President Tinubu endorses as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, saying, “Whoever Tinubu anoints as the governorship candidate, we will vote for.”

The monarch thanked the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for his role in the road projects and prayed for Tinubu’s continued good health and long life, saying the president would be remembered for the impact of his administration.

Also speaking, the National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, said Osun residents deserved value for money from the resources coming to the state. He noted that despite increased federal allocations, many roads remained in poor condition, while the education and health sectors continued to face shortages of teachers and other personnel.

Basiru said the APC and its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would invest in critical infrastructure, education and healthcare if elected in the August 15 governorship election, describing Oyebamiji as a financial expert with experience in both the public and private sectors.
