OPay expands N1.2bn scholarship initiative to OAU

OPay, Nigeria’s leading financial services provider, has extended its N1.2 billion 10-year scholarship initiative to students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, making the institution the third beneficiary of the program.

Speaking on the development, OPay’s Chief Public Affairs Officer, Justin Zhang, emphasized the company’s dedication to fostering opportunities for students.

“Obafemi Awolowo University has a legacy of producing some of the nation’s brightest minds, and we are proud to support these future leaders as part of our broader commitment to education and empowerment,” he said.

A beneficiary of the scholarship, Omoboriowo Damilola Isaac, a 600-level student in the Clinical Sciences Department, expressed gratitude for the financial relief, noting that it would ease the burden on his family and allow him to concentrate fully on his studies.

OAU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. O.M.A Daramola, lauded OPay’s support, describing it as a significant milestone.

“This generous donation goes beyond what alumni efforts have achieved over the years. It ensures that students can focus on their education rather than worrying about basic survival,” he stated.

With OAU joining the list of beneficiaries, OPay has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the scholarship initiative to other tertiary institutions across Nigeria, reinforcing its belief in education as a catalyst for national development.
