Osun Assembly passes bill establishing State Police

The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the bill seeking to establish State Police in the state following thorough deliberation on the proposal during its plenary on Tuesday.

The development followed the transmission of the State Police Amendment Bill, which was passed by the National Assembly on June 24, 2026, to the various state Houses of Assembly for consideration and approval.

The motion for the approval and passage of the proposed State Police bill was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Babajide Kofoworola, and seconded by Tajudeen Adeyemi, representing Ifelodun State Constituency.

The lawmakers subsequently considered the proposal and approved the establishment of State Police in Osun State.

Speaking on the development, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, said all amendments approved by the Osun State House of Assembly should be forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.

The House also dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for further consideration of the Osun State Park Management System Bill, 2026, with the corrections and amendments made to form part of the bill under consideration.

In another development, the House returned Rabiu Adesina as chairman of the House Committee on Home Affairs and Tourism.
