Oyo govt addresses claims of retirees’ payment irregularities

The Oyo State Government has denied claims of payment irregularities regarding year 2015 and 2018 retirees’ gratuities.

While addressing newsmen, the commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, stated that the claims making rounds misrepresents the discussion he had with the group led by Comrade Ojekunle Tope.

He explained that the current administration of Governor Seyi Makinde inherited unpaid gratuities dating back to 2008 and has been seeking various measures to address backlogs since he assumed office.

Following an increase in the monthly allocation for gratuity payments from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion in January 2026 alone, Prof. Adelabu indicated that the Ministry has intensified its efforts and restructured payment process to accelerate disbursements.

He noted that over 500 beneficiaries, including pensioners with entitlements due in 2019, received their payments in January 2026, adding that some retirees awaiting payment may experience documentation or processing issues, which the Ministry is actively trying to resolve.

The commissioner further thanked pensioners for their patience and assured that all legitimate outstanding gratuities will be fully paid in due course.
