PDP seeks details of Ondo flyover project, demands transparency

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has called on the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to provide detailed information on major projects recently approved by the State Executive Council, including their funding sources, timelines and procurement procedures.

The opposition party made the demand while reacting to the approval of a new 2.38-kilometre flyover project in Akure, the state capital, saying residents deserve greater transparency on public spending.

In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Jolade Aladetan, the PDP argued that project announcements should be accompanied by clear disclosures on how the projects will be financed and executed.

The party noted that the approval of another flyover came shortly after the commissioning of the state’s first flyover, raising questions about the total cost of the new project, its funding arrangement and expected completion date.

According to the PDP, several communities across Ondo State continue to face challenges such as poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities, insecurity, unemployment and rising poverty, which also require urgent government attention.

The opposition party also expressed reservations over the proposed upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, to a University of Agricultural Science and Technology, urging the government to explain its sustainability plan and funding framework for the institution.

Commenting on the planned rehabilitation of the Owena Dam, the PDP said residents would prefer to see measurable improvements in water supply rather than repeated promises, stressing that the success of the project should be judged by its impact on the lives of citizens.

The party maintained that it would continue to scrutinise government policies and projects in the interest of the public, insisting that the people of Ondo State deserve accountable governance, transparency in public expenditure and development initiatives that deliver tangible results.
