Police probe man arrested in military-style attire in Osogbo

The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a man suspected to be a bandit who was arrested in Osogbo, the state capital.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended by residents at Oke-Fia, near the Government House along Ilobu Road, on Wednesday.

A video of the suspect circulating on social media showed him wearing a pair of Nigerian Army trousers and an Amotekun uniform underneath his vest, alongside several other layers of clothing.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the suspect had been taken into police custody for further investigation.

Ojelabi explained that the man was initially taken to the police Area Command in Oke-Fia before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the police headquarters in Osogbo.

He, however, said preliminary observations suggested that the suspect might have health-related issues, noting that his responses during interrogation were incoherent.

“When he was being interrogated, his responses were not coherent. We have contacted his relatives and they are expected to appear at the state police command tomorrow,” Ojelabi said.

He assured that the command would conduct a thorough investigation, including verification of the suspect’s identity and health condition.
