PHOTO NEWS: Pedro presents letters of credence to Australia’s Governor-General

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Solomon Islands and the Oceanic States, Ambassador Otunba Femi Pedro, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to Australia’s Governor-General, Ms Sam Mostyn AC, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic assignment in the region.

The credential presentation ceremony, held on Tuesday, in Canberra, the country’s capital which officially accredited Pedro as Nigeria’s representative to Australia and several Pacific nations.

Speaking after the ceremony, the envoy described the occasion as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Australia and the wider Pacific region.

“Today’s ceremony marks the official commencement of my duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Solomon Islands and the Oceanic States. This is not just a ceremonial milestone—it is a call to action,” Pedro said.

The High Commissioner noted that Nigeria and Australia enjoy a strong and evolving relationship anchored on shared Commonwealth values and mutual respect.

“Australia and Nigeria share a uniquely rich and evolving partnership built on mutual respect, shared Commonwealth values and growing economic complementarities,” he stated.

According to him, both countries have enormous opportunities to expand cooperation in critical sectors, including mining, agriculture, education, technology and investment.

“From critical minerals and agricultural innovation to education and fintech, the opportunities for deeper collaboration are immense. Nigeria is open for business, and I look forward to working with the Australian government and our partners across the region to advance trade, investment, education and cultural exchange,” he said.
