Vice-President Kashim Shettima; UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed; President of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete; Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister, Antonio Tajani; and education activist, Malala Yousafzai, at a high-level education financing event jointly hosted by Nigeria and Italy on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.
The event, tagged “A New Era for Education Financing,” focused on the proposed Global Partnership for Education financing campaign aimed at mobilising $5 billion to support education programmes globally.
Speaking at the event, Shettima said education was an investment in Nigeria’s economic future, national productivity and the prosperity and stability of its citizens.
The Vice-President said the Federal Government had increased resources devoted to education while pursuing reforms to strengthen basic education financing, expand foundational learning and improve access to tertiary and technical education.
