Police arrest 23-yr-old man for allegedly defiling minor in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Usman, over the alleged sexual violation of a 14-year-old girl at Ijebu-Owo, in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the victim reported the incident on March 29.
According to Jimoh, the girl alleged that Usman forcefully dragged her into his employer’s office along Ijebu-Owo, where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent, adding that the suspect warned her against disclosing the incident to anyone, threatening her with dire consequences in a bid to keep her silent.
He added that operatives swiftly moved into action upon receipt of the complaint, leading to Usman’s arrest, with the suspect making a statement to aid the ongoing investigation.
Jimoh equally revealed that the suspect would face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation, while the victim had been taken to the General Hospital, Owo, for medical attention.
Additionally, the spokesman said the command was also exploring. psychosocial support mechanisms to safeguard the victim’s wellbeing throughout the investigative and judicial process, indicating that the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, instructed that the case be handled with diligence, sensitivity, and urgency.
The command went further to urge parents, guardians, and the public to remain vigilant, educate their wards on personal safety, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
