Police arrest three over alleged abduction, assault of Ekiti LCDA chairman

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged abduction and assault of the Chairman of Ikere West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rufus Olorunfemi, and another resident, Funso Ajayi.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, who said the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on June 3 along Anoye Street in Ikere Ekiti.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that a group of armed men dressed in camouflage uniforms and travelling in three Hilux vehicles intercepted the victims before whisking them away to an undisclosed location.
Investigators alleged that the victims were subsequently taken to a private residence reportedly linked to a contender in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, where they were allegedly subjected to physical assault.
The police said the victims were later released, while intelligence gathering and investigation commenced immediately to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
Abutu confirmed that three suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the case, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals believed to have participated in the operation.
He stated that the suspects currently in custody would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations, while the command continues to gather evidence relating to the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding. He also cautioned political supporters against engaging in acts capable of breaching public peace, assuring the public that justice would be served and that the command remains committed to maintaining security across the state.
