The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Omoyeni Sesan, for alleged phone theft, recovering two stolen mobile devices in the process.

The development was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Friday, noting that the suspect was apprehended on April 16, 2026, following credible intelligence.

Abutu said the information received by operatives at the Ado Central Divisional Police Headquarters indicated that the suspect was sighted at Fayose Market attempting to sell phones suspected to have been stolen.

“Upon receipt of the information, operatives from the division swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested the suspect,” he said.

He added that items recovered from the suspect included one Redmi android phone and one Itel mobile phone, both believed to be stolen.

According to the police spokesman, the suspect confessed during interrogation that he stole the phones from a cyber café within the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.

Abutu further stated that the owners of the phones, said to be students of the institution, had been identified and efforts were ongoing to return the recovered items to them.

He noted that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, however, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information that would assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities in the state.
