Presidential delegation visits ongoing highway, bridge projects in Ebonyi
Members of the Presidential Communications Team on Saturday inspected key federal infrastructure projects in Ebonyi State as part of the ongoing Renewed Hope Media Tour across Nigeria’s South-East region.
The delegation, led by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, visited several federal and state government projects aimed at showcasing development initiatives under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The team included Presidential Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, alongside other presidential media aides.
The tour began at the Government House in Abakaliki, where Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru received the delegation. Onanuga said the media tour was designed to provide firsthand assessment of ongoing projects and increase public awareness of federal government initiatives, while also highlighting collaboration between federal and state governments.
Nwifuru welcomed the team and commended the federal government’s infrastructure development efforts in the South-East, particularly in Ebonyi State.
Accompanied by Minister of Works, David Umahi, the delegation inspected several ongoing road and bridge projects, including a 90-metre link bridge on Section One of the Calabar–Abuja Trans-Sahara Super Highway and the 1.3-kilometre Ndi-Egbe Bridge in Afikpo Local Government Area. The bridge, which will connect Ebonyi State with neighboring Cross River State, is expected to be completed by December 2026.
According to Umahi, the Calabar–Abuja Trans-Sahara Super Highway is designed to link Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa states and the Federal Capital Territory. He said the scope of the first section was expanded from an initial 118-kilometre single carriageway to a dual carriageway covering 123.6 kilometres at a cost of N445 billion.
“The project is over 28 per cent completed despite the rainy season, and concrete pavement technology is being used to improve durability,” Umahi said.
