Rainstorm ravages Ekiti community, leaves residents homeless

A heavy rainstorm on Sunday evening wreaked havoc in Are-Ekiti, destroying buildings and displacing several residents.

The downpour, which lasted for hours, was accompanied by strong winds that tore through rooftops and weakened structures across the community.

Residents said the intensity of the rainfall was unusual, as it continued late into the night, leaving many homes exposed to damage.

Eyewitnesses reported that several houses collapsed, while others suffered severe structural damage, with property either destroyed or washed away by floodwaters.

The incident has left many families homeless, forcing victims to seek refuge with neighbours and relatives.

Affected residents expressed concern over their living conditions, warning of possible health risks, especially for children and the elderly.

Victims appealed to the Ekiti State Government under Biodun Oyebanji to provide urgent assistance to ease their hardship.

They also urged the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency to assess the damage and provide relief materials, as the community awaits prompt intervention.
