Register before CVR deadline, INEC urges Ondo residents

The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged eligible residents of Ondo State to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration before it ends on Sunday, July 26, warning that failure to register could prevent them from voting in the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, made the appeal on Wednesday while monitoring the third phase of the extended registration exercise at centres in Akure and Idanre Local Government Area.
During the visit, Agboke inspected registration centres along Oda Road, St. Anthony RCM Primary School, Araromi, Akure, St. Stephen Anglican Primary School in Idanre, and other designated locations to assess the exercise.
He cautioned eligible citizens against waiting until after the registration deadline to complain about being unable to vote, stressing that voter registration is a civic responsibility.
Agboke said those who fail to register despite being aware of the exercise should not accuse the commission of disenfranchising them, noting that only registered voters can participate in elections.
The REC expressed satisfaction with the turnout recorded across the state and assured residents that all Permanent Voter Cards processed before the deadline would be ready ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the Olu-Ayede of Odo-Ala in Akure North Local Government Area, Oba Bakare Jimoh, commended INEC for the smooth conduct of the exercise after transferring his voter registration from Akure South to Akure North.
Similarly, a resident of Idanre, Mrs. Oluwatosin Rachael Akinde, described the registration process as stress-free, saying she transferred her voter registration because she now lives far from her former polling unit and wants to participate in the next general election.
