Reps Deputy Speaker urges more funding for teachers at Tolu School launch
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called for sustained investment in teachers, curriculum development, technology, and inclusive policies to guarantee access to quality education for every Nigerian child.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Tolu School Complex in Ajegunle, Lagos, Kalu emphasized that education remains the foundation for sustainable national development and must be prioritised at all levels of governance.
“As we commission this complex today, let us continue to invest in teachers, in curriculum, in technology, and in policies that ensure every Nigerian child, regardless of background has access to quality education,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker described the newly inaugurated facility—executed under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu—as a strategic investment in the future, noting that it goes beyond physical infrastructure to create opportunities for thousands of young Nigerians.
The complex, which comprises 36 schools and a stadium with 19 mini football pitches, was highlighted as a model for holistic education, integrating both academic and extracurricular development to foster discipline, teamwork, and resilience among students.
Kalu commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for what he described as visionary leadership in improving educational infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for learning. He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that Ajegunle, long recognised for its resilience and creativity, is now further positioned as a hub for educational excellence and talent development.
Addressing students, Kalu urged them to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the facility, describing the classrooms as “launchpads for greatness” where future leaders, professionals, and innovators will be nurtured.
