Tinubu to commission roads, power projects in Bayelsa

Governor Diri declares public holiday, orders closure of markets ahead of presidential visit

President Bola Tinubu is set to commission key road and power projects in Bayelsa State on Friday, in a move aimed at boosting infrastructure, improving electricity supply, and stimulating economic activities across the state.

The visit will see the inauguration of several “legacy projects” executed by the administration of Governor Duoye Diri, with a focus on enhancing opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and strengthening critical infrastructure across the state.

Ahead of the President’s arrival, Governor Diri declared Friday a public holiday and ordered the closure of markets, alongside implementing heightened security measures to ensure smooth movement within Yenagoa and surrounding areas.

Among the projects slated for commissioning are the Yenagoa–Gbaramatu road, the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma bridge, and the Sagbama–Ekeremor road. These developments are expected to improve connectivity and facilitate business activities across Bayelsa.

A major highlight of the visit is the inauguration of a 60-megawatt gas turbine Independent Power Project, designed to significantly boost electricity supply in the state.

As part of his itinerary, President Tinubu is also expected to engage with key stakeholders in Bayelsa, particularly in the oil and gas sector. During the engagement, he is likely to reiterate his administration’s commitment to enhancing national security and increasing Nigeria’s oil production to over two million barrels per day.

The President is also expected to emphasize the importance of stability in crude oil production in the Niger Delta, especially as Nigeria seeks to benefit from potential gains arising from ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The visit comes shortly after the National Assembly approved the N68.32 trillion 2026 budget, with projections that additional revenue—estimated at N9 trillion—could be generated from global oil market developments.
