UNGA 81: Shettima meets Nigerians in diaspora in New York
Vice President Kashim Shettima has met with Nigerians living in the United States on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, disclosed this in a post on his X account on Thursday.
The engagement focused on diaspora participation in national development, investment, skills transfer and the role of Nigerians abroad in advancing the country’s economic and diplomatic interests.
Western Post reported that Shettima is also expected later on Thursday to present President Bola Tinubu’s National Statement at the General Debate of the 81st UN General Assembly.
Shettima was accompanied at the meeting by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum; Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara; Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal; and Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
Spouses of the governors of Katsina, Abia and Osun states also attended the engagement.
Among the ministers at the meeting were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro; Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa; and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake.
Others included the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite; and Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure.
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim; Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Lateef Kayode Are; heads of government agencies and senior officials of Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in the US were also present.
