Soun of Ogbomoso suspends Adeseun from Mayegun title over alleged misconduct
The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has approved the indefinite suspension of former senator, Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun, from the traditional title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland over alleged misconduct.
The decision was conveyed in a communiqué dated March 23, 2026, and signed by the palace secretary, Toyin Ajamu, which cited acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect towards the throne.
According to the palace, the action was taken to safeguard the dignity and sanctity of the traditional institution, noting that the former lawmaker’s conduct had become a matter of concern.
The communiqué stated that the alleged actions and utterances attributed to Adeseun fell short of the expectations required of a holder of the prestigious chieftaincy title.
“These actions fall significantly short of the dignity, honour, and responsibility expected of the holder of the esteemed title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland,” the statement read.
The monarch, invoking his traditional authority, directed the immediate suspension of the title and ordered Adeseun to desist from parading himself as Mayegun in any capacity.
The palace further emphasised that strict compliance with the directive is required and warned against any act capable of undermining the authority of the throne.
Efforts by Western Post to reach Adeseun for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. The development has, however, generated reactions within Ogbomosoland and beyond.
