Three arrested over attack, robbery of police officer in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday announced the arrest of three suspects over the assault and robbery of a police officer in Agadagba community, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the suspects were apprehended following a swift, intelligence-led operation.

The incident, which occurred on March 6, 2026, involved an attack on Inspector Ige Olayinka, attached to the Area Command in Okitipupa, while on official duty in the community.

Police sources revealed that the officer was in the area to investigate a petition when she was allegedly attacked by a group of individuals who assaulted her and dispossessed her of her service riot gun and personal belongings.

Following the report, operatives of the command launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of the suspects identified as Ajemigi Amos, Ofoezu Tari and Alonge Lot.

The police added that the stolen service weapon was recovered during the operation, while the suspects have since been charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the attack, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and a threat to public order.

He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to tackle crimes against law enforcement officers and assured residents of continued efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
