Two-storey building collapses in Ogun hours after similar collapse in Anambra

Panic erupted on Monday after a two-storey building collapsed along Baale Road near Ajuwon Bus Stop in Ogun State, with an unspecified number of occupants feared trapped beneath the rubble.

The incident threw the neighbourhood into confusion as residents rushed to the scene in search of survivors, while a large crowd gathered around the collapsed structure awaiting the arrival of emergency responders.

An eyewitness, Anthony, said only one male occupant managed to escape before the building became completely inaccessible, adding that the survivor disclosed that his wife and children were still trapped inside the building.

“Only one man came out of the building. He said his wife and children are still trapped inside,” Anthony said.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ogun State Government nor emergency management agencies had confirmed the number of victims or casualties, while there was no official update on the status of rescue operations.

The incident occurred just hours after another building collapse was recorded in Anambra State, where a three-storey student hostel known as Elite Five Star Lodge caved in at Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area.

The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that several victims were rescued alive and taken to a hospital in Oko for treatment, adding that rescue operations were continuing to reach others who might still be trapped beneath the debris.

The latest incident adds to the growing number of building collapses across the country.
