2027: Atiku names El-Rufai deputy chairman as ADC unveils campaign council
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has approved a lean National Campaign Council and Presidential Campaign Management Committee ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The structure, according to a statement by Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication and Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Phrank Shaibu, is designed to reduce bureaucracy, avoid duplication of roles and ensure accountability.
The National Campaign Council will be chaired by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, while former Kaduna State Governor and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai, will serve as deputy chairman.
Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central in the Senate and a former Minister of State for Defence, has been appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager.
Akobundu, a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army, will oversee the day-to-day running of the campaign and coordinate its various operational arms.
According to the statement, the campaign has been divided into six major operational directorates, each headed by a Deputy Director-General, with 30 directors assigned specific responsibilities.
The Media and Communications Directorate will be headed by veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, while former Kogi State Senator, Dino Melaye, will also play a role in the campaign’s national mobilisation and public engagement.
The policy team will be led by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi serving as Deputy Chairman and Aare Aremijoye as Secretary.
