Soludo backs Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, says APGA won’t contest presidency

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, says he would be supporting the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, stressing that he stands firmly by his position.
Speaking on during a televised media chat in Awka, the state capital on Saturday, Soludo described Tinubu as a trusted ally and personal friend, noting that he remains convinced the president deserves a second term in office.
“I have no apologies about my position. Tinubu is my friend, and I want him to win a second term,” the governor stated.
Soludo also revealed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) does not intend to field a presidential candidate in the 2027 election. According to him, the decision is consistent with the party’s approach during the 2023 general elections when it refrained from presenting a presidential candidate and instead supported the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor emphasised that the move should not be interpreted as anti-party activity but rather as a strategic partnership designed to advance governance and national development.
He further highlighted what he described as a productive working relationship between his administration and the Federal Government, noting that Anambra State has benefited from federal support since Tinubu assumed office in 2023.
Soludo added that APGA’s political strategy remains focused on consolidating its strength at the state and regional levels while supporting a presidential candidate it believes has the capacity to deliver effective leadership at the national level.
