Benue tragedy: JSS3 student allegedly beats teacher to death over seized cap

A Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) student of UBE Secondary School, Oju Centre, Benue State, has allegedly beaten a teacher to death following a confrontation over a confiscated school cap.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, in the Oju Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports by security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the student, identified as 16-year-old Friday Ogamude, confronted his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, aged 35, demanding the return of a cap that had been seized since May 2025.
Eyewitnesses said the confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the student allegedly struck the teacher. Mr. Oyibe who reportedly collapsed on the spot and was immediately rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. As of the time of filing this report , the suspect is reportedly in police custody.
The Benue State Ministry of Education and community leaders have condemned the incident, calling for calm and a thorough investigation. They also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
