Major General Nnebeife assumes command as 47th GOC 2 Division Nigerian Army
Major General Chinedu Nnebeife has officially assumed duty as the 47th General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, and Force Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMA Sector 3.
He took over from Major General Obinna Onubogu during a handing and taking over ceremony held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the 2 Division Headquarters, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.
In his remarks, Major General Nnebeife expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to lead the Division, while commending the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for reposing confidence in him.
He also praised his predecessor for his leadership and urged officers and soldiers of the Division to redouble their efforts in the discharge of military duties.
“I am indeed grateful to God for the grace to achieve this feat. I appreciate the COAS for the confidence reposed in me and the opportunity to take up a new phase of service to the Army and the nation at large,” he said.
In his farewell speech, Major General Onubogu thanked God for the privilege to serve and expressed appreciation to the COAS for his support during his tenure. He also commended officers and soldiers of the Division for their cooperation and urged them to extend greater support to his successor.
The ceremony featured the signing of handing and taking over notes, the decoration of the new GOC with the Division insignia, a farewell address to troops, the symbolic handover of the Division’s flag, and the hoisting of a new command flag at the Quarter Guard, signifying the beginning of a new era.
