Tinubu postpones G20, AU–EU trips over insecurity, orders heavy deployment to Kwara

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following fresh security concerns arising from the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and a violent attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
The president was scheduled to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa, after which he was expected to proceed to Angola for the 7th AU–EU Summit. However, the incidents—one involving the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and another attack by armed bandits at the Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara—prompted an immediate change of plans.
In response to a request from the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed security agencies to launch a manhunt for the perpetrators of the church attack.
The president is awaiting detailed briefings from Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) on the Kwara incident.
Tinubu reaffirmed his directive to security operatives to ensure the safe return of the 24 abducted schoolgirls, stressing that every effort must be made to bring them home unharmed.
