Police arrest 55-year-old man over alleged sexual abuse of minor in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, over an alleged case of incest and sexual abuse involving a minor.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspect allegedly impregnated a 15-year-old girl, who is reportedly his niece.

Jimoh explained that the matter was reported to the police on January 4 by one Adewale of Ilara-Mokin, who raised concerns after discovering the cause of the victim’s pregnancy.

Following the report, the police said the case was transferred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the command for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.

The spokesperson revealed that the suspect is currently in custody and would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.

Jimoh added that the arrest reflects the reform agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, particularly in strengthening responses to sexual and gender-based violence.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the police, stressing that collective action is key to protecting children and building safer communities.
