Kefas denies rift with Danjuma, says defection to APC was not cash-induced

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has dismissed claims of a rift with elder statesman and former Defence Minister Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, describing their relationship as cordial and longstanding.

Kefas, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the clarification on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The governor said speculation about a disagreement between him and Danjuma was unfounded, stressing that the retired general remains a father figure to him.

According to Kefas, their relationship, built over years of association and shared military background, has remained intact despite political developments.

He disclosed that he visited Danjuma prior to his defection and received his blessing. Although the former minister is not affiliated with any political party, Kefas said he sought his counsel before making the decision to switch parties.

Addressing allegations that financial inducement influenced his move to the APC, the governor described the claims as false.

He maintained that his defection was based on conviction and strategic considerations aimed at advancing Taraba State’s development.

Kefas also expressed confidence in delivering electoral support for President Tinubu in 2027, citing improvements in security and agricultural development across the state.

He noted that while no society is entirely free of crime, security conditions in Taraba have improved, enhancing mobility and reducing violence.
