Adeleke accuses Oyebamiji, Oyetola of backtracking on alleged rigging threats

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has rejected what he described as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s recent attempt to backtrack on its earlier alleged threats to rig the forthcoming governorship election.

Reacting to statements credited to the Osun APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, on the August 15 poll, the governor described their shift in tone as “deceitful”, aimed at concealing their alleged intention to tamper with the will of the people.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said voters would not be deceived by the APC leaders’ pledge to support free and fair elections.

He also demanded an apology from Oyebamiji and his supporters over what he described as earlier alleged threats to forcefully take over the government on August 15.

According to him, “The Osun APC campaign operatives have issued several warnings and social media posts about using federal might to override popular votes. What has now changed that Mr Oyebamiji suddenly embraces free and fair elections?”

Adeleke said the party’s alleged hidden agenda remained to seize power at any cost, adding that attempts to cover up previous open threats were unacceptable.

He called on the APC to recommit itself to democratic principles by ceasing its alleged efforts to sabotage the Accord Party, undermine his candidacy and financially strangle local governments in the state.

The governor added that he remained committed to a peaceful and credible election, expressing confidence that the majority of Osun residents supported his administration and would defend their votes during the governorship poll.
