The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on students’ private hostels near Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Ado Ekiti.
According to him, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when suspected robbers invaded hostels located off-campus in the Iworoko area.
He further revealed that the attackers forcefully relieved students of their mobile phones and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
“Upon receiving the distress call, operatives of the Iworoko Division swiftly mobilised and trailed the suspects to their hideouts, leading to the arrest of two persons, while others escaped,” Abutu said.
Police sources further indicated that the items recovered include an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle, stolen phones, digital radios, as well as shoes and clothing.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and provided useful information about other gang members currently at large,” he added.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, urged residents to support the command with credible information, assuring that efforts were ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects and curb criminal activities in the state.
