Kalu hails rescue of Oyo pupils, urges politicians not to politicise security

Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has praised President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and the country’s security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kalu described the rescue as a huge relief for the victims, their families and the nation, commending the coordinated efforts of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies involved in the operation.

He said the successful operation highlighted the importance of collaboration among security agencies and the Federal Government’s continued support for efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.

Congratulating the rescued victims and their families, Kalu urged politicians and public office holders not to turn issues of national security into political contests.

“Security is not a partisan matter. Criminals do not ask their victims which political party they belong to before attacking them. When our security agencies record successes, every Nigerian should be encouraged because such victories belong to the nation as a whole.

“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, the National Security Adviser for coordinating intelligence and security operations, and our gallant security personnel whose sacrifices continue to keep our country safe. They deserve our appreciation and support,” he said.

Kalu also called on politicians and public commentators to support the fight against insecurity through constructive engagement, stressing that protecting lives and property should always come before political differences.

He expressed sympathy for the families who endured weeks of anxiety during the victims’ captivity and prayed for the rescued pupils and teachers to make a full physical and emotional recovery.
