Fire destroys goods worth millions as blaze guts Justrite supermarket in Lagos

Goods and property worth millions of naira were destroyed after a fire engulfed a branch of Justrite Superstore along Akowonjo Road in the Egbeda/Alimosho area of Lagos State on Thursday.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were deployed to the scene to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which confirmed the incident in a post on X, said the fire occurred at the popular retail outlet near Jimoh Bus Stop, adding that emergency officials were already battling the blaze.
The agency advised motorists and residents to avoid the Akowonjo and Egbeda corridor to allow emergency operations, noting that traffic diversions had been introduced and warning of heavy congestion along Akowonjo Road and adjoining routes.
Eyewitnesses said the fire severely affected the supermarket’s electronics section on the upper floor, with thick smoke seen billowing from the building.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation of any casualty, while the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
Authorities said the extent of the damage would be assessed after the fire had been completely brought under control.
