The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the deaths of three siblings whose bodies were found near a river on a farm around the Owena Army Barracks, Akure.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, adding that the incident occurred on Friday, September 4, 2026.
The victims were identified as 11-year-old twins, Joshua and Jacob Jonah, and their five-year-old sister, Blessing. The children reportedly accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farm.
The children were said to have left the farm for home while their father remained behind. However, when he returned home, he discovered that they were missing, prompting a search operation.
The search continued until Saturday when the bodies of the three children were found near the bank of a small river within the farm.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, ordered a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The command said detectives were working to establish the facts and circumstances that led to the tragedy, while Ohagwu commiserated with the bereaved family.
The police also urged parents and guardians to exercise greater vigilance over children, particularly around rivers, streams, ponds and other bodies of water, to prevent avoidable tragedies.
