The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a principal suspect in the murder of a 61-year-old retired teacher, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, in Abeokuta, nearly eight months after her death.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspect, identified as Alhaji Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as “OKI-OCEAN,” was arrested on October 19, 2026, following investigations by the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran.
According to the statement, Oluwaseun’s body was discovered in the toilet of her residence at Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 28, a day after she reportedly attended a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.
Police said preliminary findings indicated that she was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.
According to the Command, the suspect reportedly confessed to the killing and linked it to financial dealings with the deceased, claiming he had entrusted ₦3.45 million to her for safekeeping and expected her to lend him ₦1.5 million to purchase another vehicle. Investigators are working to verify the account and establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the investigators and said the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
The Command urged residents to resolve disputes lawfully and report criminal activities to the police.
