Akoko-Edo LG partners transport unions to boost revenue

The Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Hon. Robert Akande Olumole, has pledged to partner with transport and heavy-duty unions to boost the council’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
Olumole made the pledge while receiving representatives of six units of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Heavy Duty Union at the council secretariat in Igarra.
He described the unions as key contributors to the local economy through their transportation and haulage activities, noting that collaboration with the council would help expand its revenue base and promote financial independence.
Earlier, the union’s patron, Comrade Sunny Ifijeh, congratulated Olumole on his emergence as council chairman and appealed to him to facilitate the establishment of an independent union branch in the local government area.
The union’s Assistant Secretary, Hon. Omeiza Ogumah, also urged the chairman to support the union’s quest for independence, explaining that it would enable the organisation to coordinate its revenue-generating units more effectively and contribute to the development of Akoko-Edo.
The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen cooperation between the council and transport operators, with a focus on improving revenue generation and stimulating local economic growth.
