FEC approves N631bn for nine road projects nationwide

The Federal Executive Council has approved about N631.3bn for nine road projects across the country, including major reconstruction works in Kogi, Ekiti and Kano states.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The projects cover the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of road networks intended to improve connectivity, ease transportation and support economic activities.
Umahi said the largest of the listed contracts was the reconstruction of the 81.1-kilometre Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State, including a bridge, at an estimated cost of N209bn.
The council also approved N167bn for the reconstruction of the 95-kilometre Etuke–Okeni–Ankpa–Otopa Road in Kogi State.
In Kano State, N89.2bn was approved for the construction of the 47-kilometre Bichi Ring Road, which will include a flyover.
Another N62bn was approved for the Tungo–Karamti Road linking Adamawa and Taraba states, with five bridges forming part of the project.
The council further sanctioned N30bn for remedial works on deteriorated sections of the East–West Road.
It also approved N28.218bn for the rehabilitation of a 17-kilometre stretch of the Sokoto–Illela Road, Route A1.
Other projects include an 18-kilometre road linking Asiago to the Port Harcourt–Enugu Expressway, valued at N20.257bn, and N11.33bn for a road project previously handled by the Abia State Government.
Umahi said the Abia project required a new funding arrangement after its financing under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s tax-credit scheme was discontinued.
