Toluwanisings: Laolu Gbenjo, Do2dtun weigh in on burial dispute
By Damilola Akinwale
Gospel singer Laolu Gbenjo has made a passionate appeal to the family of the late singer Toluwanisings to resolve their ongoing internal conflict away from the public eye.
Speaking at Toluwanisings’ Night of Tributes on Tuesday, Gbenjo expressed deep concern over the rising family tensions and warned against repeating the prolonged dispute that has left Afropop singer Mohbad unburied.
The gospel artiste also urged bloggers and content creators to stop spreading unverified rumors and exacerbating the controversy surrounding the late singer’s final rites.
Funeral arrangements for Toluwanisings remain stalled due to a sharp disagreement between his paternal family and his widow, Elizabeth, regarding his final resting place.
While his family insists on burying him at his private residence or alongside his mother in Ikirun, Osun State, his widow has proposed a cemetery burial instead.
Furthermore, the family has demanded a full investigation into the circumstances of his death prior to any interment, stating their readiness to cover mortuary fees for as long as necessary.
Weighing in on the dispute, popular On-Air Personality Oladotun Kayode, known as Do2dtun, took to social media to condemn home burials, describing the practice as archaic and emotionally damaging to surviving occupants.
Do2dtun argued that a spouse holds primary decision-making authority over a deceased partner’s burial in the absence of a will, urging families to abandon entitlement and respect the widow’s position.
