Osun APC chieftains reject Oyebamiji-led campaign committee, demand review of membership

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

Some members of the Osun State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected the party’s newly constituted 110-member presidential and parliamentary campaign committee, questioning its composition and the alleged exclusion of statutory members.

The aggrieved officials faulted the appointment of the party’s 2026 governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, as director-general, saying the committee’s composition did not reflect established party guidelines, due process and the principle of inclusiveness.

In a statement signed by the state publicity secretary, Wole Adunola; welfare officer, Deaconess Adesola Ayangbile; assistant organising secretary, Rasheed Adeniji; and ex-officio member, Abiola Ololade, they said several members of the State Working Committee, who ought to be statutory members, were omitted.

They also questioned the relationship between the new committee and the presidential campaign council inaugurated by Governor Ademola Adeleke on October 22, following a reported presidential directive naming him as its director-general in Osun State.

The officials said the distinction between the two structures must be clarified to prevent confusion, duplication of responsibilities and friction within the party, adding that the new list would be more understandable if it was intended for the parliamentary campaign council.

They insisted that the State Executive Committee remained an integral part of the APC’s organisational structure and could not be sidelined in constituting a state-wide campaign council.

They consequently demanded an immediate review of the committee’s membership through consultations with relevant stakeholders, including the party’s national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and the state coordinator, Adeleke.

“Our position is clear: we need a campaign council that respects party structures, recognises legitimate leadership, accommodates critical stakeholders, and unites all members towards electoral victory,” they said.
