AAUA lecturers suspend strike after receiving outstanding salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has suspended its industrial action following the payment of outstanding salaries owed to its members.

The union called off the strike less than 24 hours after workers of the Ondo State-owned institution received their May and June salaries through the N1.1 billion intervention fund approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

AAUA ASUU Chairman, Professor Bolu Oshodi, confirmed the development in a telephone interview on Tuesday, saying the union suspended the strike after its key demand was met.

He said academic activities would resume immediately because members had received the outstanding salaries that triggered the industrial action.

According to Oshodi, the union’s decision was in line with its principle of suspending industrial action once the demands that led to the strike had been addressed.

He commended the intervention that made the payment possible, describing it as a positive step toward restoring normal academic activities at the university.

However, Oshodi urged the Ondo State Government to ensure the regular release of funds required for the effective administration of the institution.

He added that consistent funding would prevent future disruptions to academic activities and promote stability in the university.
