ADC governorship candidate plans 213MW power plants in Osun

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Dr Najeem Salaam, has promised to deliver 24-hour electricity supply in the state if elected in the August 15 governorship election.

Salaam made the pledge on Monday while presenting his 10-point development agenda at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Osogbo.

The former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly said uninterrupted electricity was achievable, adding that his administration would leverage the Electricity Act passed by the National Assembly and domesticated by the Osun State House of Assembly to transform power supply across the state.

As part of the plan, he disclosed that 213-megawatt alternative power plants would be established in each of the three senatorial districts to guarantee stable electricity supply and stimulate industrial growth.

“We believe 24-hour power supply is achievable; it is doable. We will explore the Electricity Act passed by the National Assembly and domesticated by the State House of Assembly to deliver reliable electricity for our people,” he said.

Salaam noted that electricity remained the foundation of economic development, stressing that his administration would pursue strategic investments, alternative energy solutions and public-private partnerships to strengthen power infrastructure.

Beyond the power sector, he said his manifesto focused on workers’ welfare, agricultural revolution, quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, women inclusion, infrastructural development, security enhancement, investment promotion and accountable governance.

He described the manifesto as a contract with the people and a practical blueprint for economic growth, social development and rebuilding trust between government and citizens, with the goal of transforming Osun into a state its residents would be proud to call home.
